On Chesil Beach

In the sun on the veranda I’m currently reading Ian McEwan’s On Chesil Beach. As in his other novels he dissects a complex situation between people, here a wedding night of a young couple in the early 1960’s. Not as razor-sharp as Amsterdam and not as moving as Atonement but I find him always an excellent read.

"It is not easy to pursue such hard truths in bare feet and underpants. He drew his trousers on and groped for his socks and shoes, and thought it through all over again, smoothing out the rough edges and the difficult transitions, the briding passages that lifted free of his own uncertainties, and so perfected his case, and felt as he did so his anger surge again."

Its good to see that you're enjoying a day in the sun! I've got tomorrow off and I'm thinking about taking a ride down to the coast(about 120km) in the morning, because the weather is supposed to be wonderful tomorrow.

Skies should be clear and the temp is going to be 28-30 C. Typically, this is the time of year when the humidity can become really oppressive, but for the next several days, we're going to be fortunate enough to have some really dry air.

If I go, I'll be sure to snap a few pictures of our sandy coast for you to see.

Peace,
